You want to be successful and reach your full potential, so what is stopping you from achieving it?
I have worked with many clients on this issue over the years. The common obstacle we often identify is a fear of failing. Most of us have suffered from a fear of failure at some point or another and some of us live with these crippling self-limiting beliefs every single day.
Have you ever stopped to consider just how much this fear of failure could be holding you back in life? career? or business?
By allowing fear to hold us back from pursuing our goals, we set ourselves up for the greatest failure of all: never even trying. Without trying, your chances of success are zero.
“It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” – JK Rowling
On the path to achieving success, everyone has setbacks, myself included. What separates those who go on to achieve their goals and those who do not? Mindset.
The difference between a failure that holds you back and a failure that catapults you towards future success is the way in which you view failure.
Reframing How We View Failure
Mindset is key when it comes to how you react to perceived failure. Failure is a natural part of life, and most certainly a part of the business. Failure is generally perceived to be a negative thing, something to be ashamed of. What do you think would happen if you flipped this idea on its head and started to instead view failure as an opportunity, or a positive, even?
The truth is that failure is often the first stepping stone on the path to future success. Anyone who has ever achieved anything great will have suffered through failures and setbacks.
It’s vital to appreciate the role that failure has in your life. To avoid failure is to avoid growing at all, holding yourself back from achieving what you truly want in life. The good news is that it is entirely within your power to change your perspective. You can learn to appreciate failure not as something to be ashamed of but as something incredibly valuable.
One of the core principles of Neuro-Linguistic Programming is “There is no failure, only feedback.” By embracing this way of thinking, you will stop viewing setbacks or perceived failures as negative things. Instead, you will learn how to use it as a valuable feedback experience that gives insight into how not to do it next time. If you try something and fail, make an adjustment, and try again until you get the results you desire.
What would I attempt to do if I knew I could not fail?
