It’s September suddenly and that means the summer holiday season is coming to an end for most of us. This also means getting back into “work mode” and suddenly we realise that two-thirds of the year has gone. So, we need to ask ourselves whether we are close enough to the goals that we set ourselves.
There’s no better time than now to put things into high gear.
Here are some tips about how to get into work mode and make the next 4 months really count
Set aside some “catch-up time”
You’ve been gone for some time, so don’t expect to get caught up in a single day. Trying to tackle everything all at once can leave you feeling stressed and overwhelmed. You want to get back into work mode without stressing yourself and losing all the benefits of that lovely holiday.
Make sure that you have some time to refresh your mind about what you need to focus on, (prioritise what really needs to be done straight away, set yourself a time limit, perhaps by starting the stopwatch on your mobile, catch up with emails.
Clean up your desk /transform your workspace
There is no better feeling than a clean, organized office space. This may be the “boost” you need to get back on track. Restarting work by clearing away old and unused desk items can be both liberating and refreshing, as well as a key method in boosting work productivity.
As a series of studies have demonstrated, people who have a cleaner and tidier workspace are likely to think more clearly, as a result producing better results.
(Did you know that on average people waste close to one week a year searching for misplaced items, which only adds to the daily stress ) removing clutter from office desks allows you to avoid distraction from unnecessary objects and focus on essential work items such as computers, documents and telephones
Revisit, assess and refresh
Think of September as a fresh start back in your business.
Revisit your Vision
Put together a Vision Board if you haven’t already, it’s not too late; every day is a new day on your path to what you want. Remind yourself of your big “Why”, Why are you doing all of this?
Write it down and put it where you can see it every day
Think about what you want to achieve in the coming months, revise your existing strategy and make improvements if necessary.
What is it that you want to achieve by December 31st 2016?
Set Goals and make Goal Cards. I am a strong believer in the power of focus and intention. Writing down your goals and reviewing them daily keeps them top of mind. It also keeps you from getting sidetracked by things that are not in alignment with your top priorities.
I love to take time in the morning to visualise each goal as if it has already been achieved. This gets me engaged and excited to do whatever it takes to make my business goals happen.
Set yourself 3 goals that you want to achieve this month. Map out all actions that you will take to reach those goals and then put them in your diary, along with why you want to achieve them.
Do the same for the final 3 months of the year
Support yourself with everything you need to make your goals a reality
What do you need … to make your goals happen?
Do you need to learn a new skill?
Will you hire a coach or mentor to keep you on track with your goals?
Is there any event you could attend? Are there networking groups you should look into?
Make your time count
Focus on the end result. What will give you the most leverage? And do that first, before you start your day. There’s also nothing wrong with saying “no” occasionally. Value your time and make it count.
Even though you’re back at work it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy yourself. Try scheduling a lunch date with friends to make the first week back a little more pleasurable and give yourself something to look forward to.
Getting back into “work mode” after the summer holiday is a transition. It may take a few days for you to get to into the swing but that’s perfectly fine. There are still four months left in the year to thrive and succeed at your business.
