Marketing for Counsellors:

How One Introverted Therapist Attracted Premium Clients with Confidence and Built a Premium Practice in Central London

As an award-winning business coach, I am passionate about empowering female sole traders to build successful, sustainable businesses. With a tailored approach, I help female entrepreneurs gain the confidence, strategy, and skills they need to navigate challenges and achieve their goals. I am honoured to have been recognised as the Leading Business Coach of the Year (UK) in the 2021 Influential Businesswoman Awards by Acquisition International. My mission is to support and uplift my clients, providing them with the tools they need to thrive. Here is a case study of one of my success stories.

The Challenge

When Anna Jezuita first came to me, it was with the seemingly simple aim of learning about effective marketing for counsellors to attract more clients to her practice. However, as we peeled back the layers of Anna’s existing practice and her future goals, it soon became apparent to me that there was a deeper issue holding her back.

Anna, an exceptionally skilled counsellor, faced a significant hurdle—articulating her value. When I asked, “Tell me what you do,” she struggled to respond. I quickly realized that this wasn’t just a marketing challenge; it was a deeper issue of self-belief and clarity. Overwhelmed by business growth and plagued by self-doubt, Anna felt uncertain about how to market her services effectively.

My Solution

The Power of Niching Down

One of the first steps in transforming Anna’s practice was refining her niche. Many counsellors feel the need to appeal to everyone, but in reality, niching down is one of the most effective ways to attract the right clients. Anna explains, “I didn’t know how to expand my practice without creating more space in life.” Pinpointing a niche meant that Anna didn’t waste valuable time trying to appeal to everyone.

Why is niching so important?

  • Clarity in Messaging: When you speak to a specific audience, your marketing resonates more deeply. Instead of sounding vague, your message addresses real pain points in a way that feels personal and relevant.
  • Easier Client Attraction: Specialists are sought after, while generalists often struggle to stand out. When potential clients recognise that you’re the perfect fit for their needs, they choose you over more generalised options.
  • Confidence in Business Strategy: When you know exactly whom you’re serving, decisions about pricing, branding, and services become more straightforward and aligned with your strengths.

For Anna, we refined her niche to midlife professionals seeking emotional clarity, a group that aligned with both her expertise and passion. By crafting a message centred around transformation through compassion and insight, she was able to communicate her value effortlessly.

Using NLP to Build Confidence and Visibility

The next step was to work on building Anna’s self-belief. To help Anna overcome her visibility fears, we used Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)—a powerful psychological approach that connects language, thought patterns, and behaviours to create meaningful change.

NLP helps individuals break free from limiting beliefs by rewiring subconscious patterns. For Anna, we used NLP techniques to:

  • Shift negative thought loops: Instead of fearing exposure, she learned to view visibility as an opportunity to help more people.
  • Strengthen her self-belief: By reframing her mindset, she began to embrace her expertise with confidence.
  • Develop an empowered presence: Through NLP visualisation exercises, she saw herself communicating her value clearly and successfully attracting premium clients.

These shifts allowed Anna to step fully into her role as a sought-after counsellor with confidence and clarity. Anna explains, “Thanks to Margaret and her skills in NLP, I created more space in my self-belief and life.”

The Result

With newfound confidence, Anna expanded her practice into a premium therapeutic space in Central London. Her refined messaging speaks directly to the clients she most wants to serve—midlife professionals seeking emotional clarity. Instead of chasing clients, they now seek her out with trust and enthusiasm.

“Thanks to Margaret, my marketing messages are much more clear and appealing.” – Anna Jezuita
